Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing
The gold standard in reversing the signs of ageing skin has been resurfacing with the CO2 laser. Resurfacing is achieved by peeling away a layer of skin while causing tissue contraction.
SmartXide by Deka Lasers have now provided us with a CO2 fractional system with a super-fast scanner that can allow us to do a "Dot Resurfacing" of the whole face and neck in around 40 minutes. The dot pattern, both in terms of power, spacing and duration can be tailored to your skin-type and degree of damage.
It is ideal for reducing and reversing the changes from sun-damage, by destroying and "lifting" out abnormal pigment, as well as causing skin tightening from the thermal "insult" to dermal collagen, and stimulating fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin, to give a younger, fresher look to the skin.
The SMARTXIDE Deka CO2 Laser is an FDA-approved resurfacing laser that can dramatically improve your skin's appearance without the downtime and discomfort usually required with traditional resurfacing. A typical patient may receive 1 - 3 SMARTXIDE treatments. During each one, the laser creates thousands of microscopic spots, almost like tiny "apple-cores".
As only a percentage of the surface area is affected during each treatment, this technology combines the best of both worlds - the great and proven results of a traditional ablative laser with no pain and no downtime.
What does it treat?
It is a safe and effective way to treat sun damage, stubborn pigmentation, acne scars, rough texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and skin laxity on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands and surgical scars, with essentially no downtime.
How many treatments will it takes to see the best results?
Depending on the degree of damage to your skin and desired results, most patients require 1 - 3 treatments, spaced 6 weeks apart.
How much improvement can I expect?
Patients can expect to see improvement in the colour, texture and quality of the skin within a week or two after the treatment; however, more significant improvement will be seen after the series of treatments is complete. Skin laxity can be improved by combining SMARTXide with Titan
What does the treatment feel like?
A topical anaesthetic cream/gel is applied to the treatment area for 2 hours before the procedure, so there is virtually no discomfort at all. Rarely, a mild burning sensation may occur. Goggles/shields are worn over the eyes for protection.
What can I expect after the treatment?
The face will feel like sunburn. This reaches a peek after 2 hours then settles. The face will be pink and swollen which settles after about 48 hours. There may also be some ‘pin-point’ bleeding from some of the ‘dots’.
It may be advisable to plan to take off 5 working days, as studio cameras are unkind at the best of times! We recommend regular application of moisturisers during the day for the first 5-7 days as the skin may feel a little dry.
If you have always desired to rejuvenate your skin but have had fears of traditional laser resurfacing, you should consider this laser treatment. The results surpass any other laser technology on the market and blow away commonly known treatments like microdermabrasion and skin peels.
