Cheek Enhancement

Non-surgical cheek enhancement is a process where dermal fillers are used to improve the appearance and shape of the cheek without the need for surgery or cheek implants.

As we age our skin loses collagen and fat resulting in a changed facial contour. The cheeks can become hollow, and skin can sag and wrinkle, resulting in an overly-aged, drawn appearance. Changes in facial contour as a result of ageing are not the only reasons you may seek cheek enhancement. You may be unhappy with your mid face shape, or would like to correct flat, unattractive cheeks and to improve the overall balance of your facial shape. Whatever your reasons, cheek enhancement with dermal fillers can achieve significant improvement without the risks and costs associated with surgery.

Using dermal fillers for cheek enhancement

At Elements MediSpa we use Restylane dermal fillers to enhance the cheek. Dermal fillers are a highly flexible and effective medical cosmetic product used in facial sculpting, to fill out lines and wrinkles and to accentuate and plump up lips. Known in the industry as the ‘liquid face lift’, their versatility and excellent results are well established, as is their excellent safety record. All our dermal fillers are based on a natural non-animal derived substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). HA occurs naturally in your skin, attracting moisture to your skin’s cells and maintaining hydration. Dermal fillers are applied to the skin using a fine needle, replacing your skin’s natural HA and forming a cushion that fills out the contours of your face. The goals of cheek enhancement are to improve size, shape, profile, projection and symmetry of the cheeks. An initial consultation will determine your desired outcome.

What does my treatment involve?

As with use of dermal fillers for facial line reduction, treatment takes about 15-20 minutes. During treatment, dermal filler is injected with a very fine needle, following application of pain-relieving cream. You should experience minimal discomfort during treatment, with only transient redness, swelling or tenderness for 3-5 days after treatment. Any mild bruising around the treated area should resolve within a week. You will notice an immediate improvement in your facial contour with the effect lasting up to 6-9 months. Maintenance treatments are generally required every 6-12 months to maintain your desired facial shape.

Q: How long will the treatment session take?

A: Treatment with Restylane is a very quick and easy process. As no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately. A treatment generally takes 30 minutes. The time differs somewhat, depending on the area and the correction you wish to have performed.

Q: What will I look like after the treatment?

A: Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days.

Q: Are there any side effects?

A: The rate of reactions to Restylane is very low. However, after the treatment some injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the injection site. These typically resolve spontaneously within a few days after injection into the skin and within a week after the injection into the lips.

Q: How long do the effects of a Restylane treatment last?

A: Restylane lasts for about 6 months in most areas. We have seen that under the eyes it tends to last about 8 months. The length of time the effect of a Restylane treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded and the injection technique of the practitioner. Experience indicates that touch-up and follow-up treatments will add to the duration. Most people choose to have a new treatment within a year after the treatment of wrinkles and folds and within 6 months
